Calling all U.S. College Students! Apply to the Virtual Student Federal Service July 1-31

The Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS), the largest virtual, digital internship in the world, is proud to connect U.S. college students to the work of the U.S. Government. Over the past decade, more than 5,000 students have participated across 40 federal agencies. The VSFS program is managed by the U.S. Department of State, and offers unique mentoring and exposure to professional experiences with numerous U.S. Government entities operating both domestically and abroad.

Applications for the 2019-2020 VSFS program are open between July 1 and 31. Students create accounts on USAJOBS.gov and search for the VSFS vacancy announcement. Real work is waiting for U.S. college students across the federal government, including NASA, Smithsonian, U.S. Department of State, Central Intelligence Agency, National Park Service, and many others. You can see the projects offered at vsfs.state.gov by clicking on “See All Projects” at the top of the website. The VSFS application process includes using the USAJOBS resume builder, writing a statement of interest, choosing three projects, and uploading a transcript.

VSFS student interns play an important role in moving the government forward. There’s something for everyone: graphic design, research, mapping, videography, history, analysis, marketing, community management, writing, calculation, policy planning, application development, and more.

eInterns spend ten hours a week on VSFS projects from September through May. This is unpaid, volunteer work, but eInterns make connections that make a difference, gain valuable experience, and sometimes receive course credit from their schools. All applicants must be U.S. citizens in student status at a university in the United States or abroad. VSFS is open to undergrad through PhD candidates taking classes full or part-time, in-person or online.
