Call for Submissions and Associate Editors

Call for Submissions and Associate Editors

The SIR Journal of International Relations appears annually and publishes original manuscripts and research by undergraduate students from across the country.  The Journal is a blind, peer-reviewed publication that maintains high standards of literary quality and seeks papers that contribute to a better understanding of international affairs.

Call for Submissions
The Journal of International Relations is pleased to invite submissions from undergraduate students for our upcoming issue.  The Editorial Board welcomes submissions on any topic relevant to the theory and practice of IR. Published papers will generally consist of a sound methodology, original arguments, and an advanced knowledge of the field to which the work is relevant.

The Editorial Board requests that submissions adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Authors must be current undergraduate students, and all work must be original.
  • Papers must be between 2,000 and 6,000 words in length.
  • Manuscripts must be submitted as Microsoft Word documents (.doc format), with 1-inch margins, double-spaced, and typed in 12 point, Times New Roman font.
  • Articles must include a title, a 200-word maximum length abstract, and a brief biography, indicating whether or not the author is a member of Sigma Iota Rho (all of which must appear in the Word document).
  • Submissions with charts, graphs, or other pertinent illustrations are acceptable.

The Editorial Board also requests that citations follow the citation format of the American Political Science Review using in-text citations and references appended to the end of the document. Generally, these in-text submissions include the author’s last name and year; pages numbers are required for direct quotations.  Footnotes may be used only for relevant comments.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, January 12, 2009.

Call for Associate Editors
The Editorial Board is once again looking for Sigma Iota Rho members to serve as Associate Editors. Associate Editors will work closely with our Editorial Board to rate the quality of papers submitted for review. If you are interested in serving as an Associate Editor, please e-mail the Editorial Board with the following information: a list of previous publications (if any), a brief personal statement describing your academic and extracurricular interests, and a substantive list of fields in international relations that you have specialized in as an undergraduate (i.e., international law, strategic studies, or international economics).

The deadline for applications is Friday, November 14, 2008.

To submit a paper, apply for an Associate Editor position, or request more information, please e-mail Editor-in-Chief Daniel Tavana at SIRjournal@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Daniel Tavana
